Data-Driven Testing in Alchemy | Part 2: Using Synthetic Data

Created by Michael Deveaux, Modified on Fri, 6 Sep at 9:46 AM by Michael Deveaux

Welcome back to the Alchemy Data-Driven Testing Series!

In the second installment of our data-driven testing series, we explore how to use synthetic data in Alchemy to fill out forms. This approach eliminates the need to read data from a file, allowing the system to generate the data dynamically for each test run. Follow along as we demonstrate the simpler of two techniques for using synthetic data in Alchemy.

In This Video:

Introduction to Synthetic Data:

Discover the benefits of using synthetic data for testing, including flexibility and the ability to run numerous iterations without static data constraints.

Recording a Test:

Record a simple test in Alchemy where we fill out a contact form with placeholder data. Creating and Using Functions: Extract the form-filling steps into a reusable function and replace static data with synthetic data fields.

Executing the Test with Synthetic Data:

Watch as the test runs multiple iterations, generating different data sets on the fly using Alchemy's synthetic data capabilities.

Setting Up Repetitions:

Learn how to set up repeat actions to execute the form-filling function multiple times, ideal for scenarios like identifying memory leaks or data leaks.

Advantages and Disadvantages:

Understand the scenarios where synthetic data is beneficial and when you might need more control over your data fields.
