Generating the Test Suite Executable

Created by Michael Deveaux, Modified on Mon, 29 Jul at 5:10 PM by Michael Deveaux

Generation allows you to create an executable file that contains the tests of a specific test suite that you can run on a local machine or in the Alchemy Cloud. You can transfer this file to any machine that you want to run tests on.

When you generate a test suite executable, you can exclude specific tests if you want. In order to exclude a test:

  • Open the suite containing the tests you wish to generate the executable for.
  • Click the “Edit this item’s general information and configuration” button.
  • Click the Test State dropdown and choose Disabled, then click OK.
  • If you have any tests previously marked Disabled that you now want to include in the generation, simply do the same step as above but choose Active.
  • Be sure to click Save when complete.

Once you’re ready to generate the executable, click the Build Executable button at the top of the screen.

  • You can choose one of the options if desired.
    • Generate Source will only generate the source code for the test. You can download the source or view it.
    • Build Executable will create the executable file. It will also generate the source code. You can download the executable and/or the source, or view the source.
    • Open Build Queue will list the previously generated executable and source code files. Here you can:
      • Open the Generation screen
      • View the details of a generation entry
      • Edit the name and protection flag for an entry
      • Delete an entry
    • Once you have completed generation you can then download the executable file. The resulting .jar file can then be executed on any machine. You do not need Alchemy installed on the machine to run this file, it is vendor independent. These files can executed stand-alone or as part of a DevOps CI/CD pipeline.
    • Stand-alone execution has a variety of options you can use. These are listed at these posts:
